Project Overview

Shumba Engineering Services was appointed as the Electrical Engineer for the electrification of 329 stands in Sekale 1 Apel Cross. This project involved comprehensive planning and design services, executed within budget and time constraints. It formed part of Eskom’s broader mandate to expand electrification access to underserved rural communities.

Scope of Work

  • Confirmed number of stands/connections with Ward Councillor and Eskom Planner
  • Identified nearest MV connection point and obtained CNC approval
  • Conducted income survey
  • Prepared and verified preliminary design on site
  • Facilitated planning proposal and secured stakeholder signatures
  • Presented at the Technical Evaluation Forum (TEF)
  • Prepared and submitted Investment Committee (IC) presentation to Eskom
  • Verified site pegging and environmental data
  • Resolved environmental discrepancies with surveyor and environmentalist
  • Compiled and submitted the final detailed design

Project Outcome

The planning and design phase was delivered successfully, with all stakeholder approvals obtained and technical documentation completed to Eskom standards. Shumba Engineering received a performance rating of “Good”, meeting expectations on delivery, communication, and technical execution.

Community Impact

The project lays the foundation for electrifying 329 households, significantly boosting access to power in Sekale 1 Apel Cross. The design phase ensures a seamless transition into construction, supporting socio-economic development and improved living standards for hundreds of families.
